“FIGURA DE CONVITE”   (INVITATION FIGURE)
A cut-out panel of azulejos depicting a full-scale human figure. The figures, which are generally of footmen, halberdiers, noblemen or finely dressed ladies, are normally found on the landings of staircases or in courtyards or entrance halls and project upwards from the azulejo frieze of which they form part. They appear to be welcoming visitors. These figures were produced in the 18th and 19th centuries.
